Filip Hronek’s trade value won’t decrease over the next year or two

Sekeres and Price: Jeff Paterson talking about Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek, and how his trade value isn’t going to decrease over the next year or two, so it’s okay that he wants to stick around for a bit.

“He has said that, for the longest time, that he’s in this thing for the long haul. I don’t see an issue with this.

Like, yes, he’s the best trade chip. He’s not going to lose his trade value. When you saw what Justin Faulk got on the trade, at the trade deadline. Colton Parayko. Buffalo was lining up to get its hands on Colton Parayko.

NHL Rumors: Now What for Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings?

Right-shot defensemen that play in all situations and play the way that Filip Hronekk does, he’s not going to lose his value in a year or two. And so if the Canucks can mine mentorship out of Hronek, can continue to play him, play him a lot. Right now, until they’re ready to turn the keys over to some of these younger guys, you know, I think that could be the best of both worlds for the organization.

In as much as you continue to work and mold (Zeev) Buium or Tom Willander, and then at some point they’re ready to sort of leave the nest, and maybe at that point some of the trade protection comes off.

Maybe at that stage, Filip Hronek recognizes that, you know, there isn’t, there isn’t a ton of time left in his career, and that he does at some stage decide he wants to go elsewhere and have a shot at winning. And then you package him up or you pedal him off, and I still think that he’ll retain significant value just based on the position, the handedness, and the fact that he logs big minutes in all those situations.”
