NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild, and the Vancouver Canucks

Contract talks between the St. Louis Blues and Philip Broberg should start soon

Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: St. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg is entering the final year of his contract. An early season prediction projected him at $6.7 million, but his play could have him in the eight years at $8 million per.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong said back in October that there wasn’t a rush to extend Broberg and Dylan Holloway. They were going to get them signed, and will leave room to sign both. Both are pending RFAs. Armstrong indicated that there could be talks in December.

Last week, Broberg’s agent, in a text, said: “I’m confident that, when appropriate, we’ll engage in those conversations.”

NHL Rumors: Teams Laying The Ground Work for a Potential Trade

The Kiefer Sherwood asks for the Minnesota Wild, and others have shifted, as the Wild search for secondary scoring

Michael Rosso and Joe Smith of The Athletic: The Minnesota Wild have shown interest in Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood. The pending UFA carries a $1.5 million cap hit and $1.3 million salary. The physical forward put up 19 goals last season and is well beyond that pace this year.

The Canucks were originally asking for a good, young prospect. A source said that Wild offered one, but the Canucks have shifted gears and are reportedly asking for a good roster player and have asked some teams for a first-round pick.

There has been speculation that the Canucks are interested in Marco Rossi, but can’t see the Wild trading Rossi in a deal for Sherwood. Back at the 2025 NHL draft, the Canucks turned down a Rossi trade offer for Aatu Raty, Arturs Silovs and the No. 15 pick.

NHL Rumors: Senators, Kings, Canadiens, Blues, Oilers, and Kiefer Sherwood

Heading into the holiday roster freeze (Dec. 19th), the Wild are looking for some secondary scoring. Vladimir Tarasenko hasn’t provided the offense they’d hoped for. Ryan Hartman isn’t scoring and is available for trade. Marcus Foligno hasn’t scored in 23 games and is out with an injury. The fourth line isn’t producing any offense.
