From Maastricht to Hattem and at Ares to Leonidas, hockey was back in full swing this past weekend. We take a look at the socials of the Fourth through the Transition Class. Some of the Instagram pearls of the standard teams.

Your team in this column next week? Send us a DM.

We had almost forgotten the column existed. After three months of winter break, we were finally able to get behind the keyboard again to write an overview. Here is the very first one from 2025!

We begin our overview on IJburg. For three years now the same scenario has played out: the frontrunner comes to visit, and the frontrunner loses. This time UNO was the victim of IJburg’s drive. Yet the preparation of the Amsterdammers was not flawless with two cancelled practice games, half of the team on the other side of the world and an injury list that would make PSV jealous. Then it is not so surprising that the early stages are not strong. But oh well, who needs a complete squad when you have Tijmen in you? Who tapped the ball through the keeper’s legs as if he were Arthur. Kudos were also due to goalkeeper Jojo who appeared to have a unique interpretation of assembly time. In the legendary ‘IJburg quarter-hour’ Hidde tapped in the winning goal and IJburg beat the frontrunner for the third year in a row at home.

With only two substitutions and a sun that burned relentlessly, Baarn took the spoils against Purmerend. The only goal fell after a tight interception and a pounding backhand from Syl. Despite the minimal margin, the Baarn defense stood like a house and the three points went home with no problems. Next week the derby against Soest awaits. And more importantly: a mega fun TD.

It started with a bang: Sammetje Wijers scored within the minute. Unfortunately he proved to be as fragile as effective physically, because sixty seconds later he was back on the bench with a hamstring that hurt. Admittedly fine stats though: one chance one goal. After DES equalized, there was the lifesaver for Prinsenbeek: Björn to be alive. With an unparalleled shot into the corner of the goal, he scored the 2-1. In the closing stages, Lhyndo de Tjinko secured the victory by tapping a ball out of the goal.

The first half of the season they were unapproachable, but on Sunday Hilvarenbeek came no further than a 2-2 against Eersel. A Hilvarenbeek goal was disallowed in the last minute. Sportingly, they admitted that victory was not really deserved either. The message afterwards was clear: we have to do better. Fortunately, there is always the sun to drink away the sorrow.

For the neutral spectator it was enjoyment. For the coach, it was a nightmare: 5-6 after a game full of twists and turns. At the score 3-6, the doves allowed Wijchen to come back to 5-6. The equalizer failed to materialize and the bag went to Duiven with the full score.

The first match after the winter break. A big ten for the sports weather. But zero points. So the Nova ladies were empty-handed after the game against leader Heeze. Fortunately there was a small consolation: the Nova men did take the three points.

On Saturday Brent was still on skis in Italy and less than 24 hours later his ski suit was replaced by the Kromhouters outfit thanks to the smart travel plan of Ties. After a first quarter in which Kromhouters was not bright enough, opponent Geldrop did not get a foothold. Brent also made a prediction for the meeting in the Silver Cup against Hilversum: 2-1 in favor of Kromhouters.

What was in the tea with the ladies of MEP we won’t know, but it worked. After a 0-0 halftime score there was eventually a 4-1 final score on the scoreboard. With a smile on their faces, MEP walked off the field. The look can be forward. Next week HCAS awaits.
