Wisconsin football class of 2026 safety target Jowell Combay will announce his collegiate commitment on July 9, according to his recent post on X.

Combay, who officially visited Madison the weekend of June 13, will make his decision between a litany of the most prestigious programs across the nation. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety also officially visited Missouri the weekend of May 30, South Carolina the weekend of June 6 and Tennessee the weekend of June 20. He also unofficially visited Georgia and Georgia Tech on May 17 and June 19, respectively.

At this stage of the process, it appears as if the Badgers, Tigers, Gamecocks, Volunteers, Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets are in a six-team race to secure a commitment from the talented defender.

247Sports’ composite ranking considers the rising senior the No. 630 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 49 safety and the No. 70 overall player from his home state of Georgia. The Marietta native is considered a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and On3, while Rivals lists him as a four-star player.

As a junior at Kell High School, Combay logged 93 total tackles (66 solo), 11 pass deflections, three tackles for loss and two interceptions. In two seasons as a member of the varsity squad, he has accumulated 152 total tackles (105 solo), 16 pass deflections and two interceptions.

Neither Rivals nor 247Sports has released predictions for Combay’s decision, but On3’s prediction recruiting machine considers Tennessee the favorite at 28%. The Volunteers are followed by the Gamecocks (18.5%), Tigers (15.9%) and Badgers (13.2%).

Wisconsin’s current class of 2026 ranks No. 52 in the nation with 13 players committed. One of its most recent commitments — three-star safety Zachary Taylor — headlines the class.

If Combay were to commit to the Badgers, he would become the third defensive back to offer his pledge to Luke Fickell’s program, joining both Taylor and three-star Carsen Eloms. While the Badgers’ recruiting window is far from over, the program is searching for a return to the top 25 for the third consecutive year. Cowell’s decision could significantly alter its position.
