The Penn State football program is actively strengthening its future talent pipeline, as evidenced by recent news of two significant commitments for the class of 2027. This recruiting surge comes at a critical time for the program, which is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season. Following the mid-season dismissal of James Franklin, the Nittany Lions hired Matt Campbell from Iowa State, and the new coaching staff is already making an impact on the recruiting trail.

The week began with a notable commitment from four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect from Pierre, South Dakota, is ranked among the top 10 players at his position and chose the Nittany Lions over Notre Dame. His commitment reinforces the high expectations surrounding the program, a sentiment echoed by quarterback Rocco Becht.

Having followed Campbell from Iowa State, Becht emphasized the championship standards in Happy Valley, stating that fans view anything below the highest level of competition as unacceptable for such a historic program.

The momentum continued to build with two additional key commitments reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

First, Penn State secured interior offensive lineman Jon Sassic, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound powerhouse from Pittsburgh. Sassic chose to remain in-state, committing to the Nittany Lions over a competitive field that included Pitt, West Virginia, Florida State, and Virginia Tech. His physical stature and local ties make him a significant addition to Campbell’s offensive line in the future.

In another major victory for the scouting staff, four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair also announced his commitment to the program. The 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back from Euclid, Ohio, opted for the Nittany Lions over powerhouse programs like Miami and Clemson. The addition of Sassic and Telfair, along with Terwilliger, provides a strong foundation for the 2027 class and indicates that Matt Campbell is successfully navigating this new era of Penn State football.
