The Baylor Bears travel to Houston, Texas, to take on Kelvin Sampson and his seventh-ranked Houston Cougars in a massive Wednesday evening matchup. Houston is on the brink of earning a one-seed in the Big Dance, but it has to finish things off in the right way. As for Baylor, they’re on the outside looking in at March Madness and likely need to pull off an upset with some help to get there. Here’s a preview, prediction, key storylines, and updated odds to keep an eye on in this matchup as we get set for today’s game.

Houston vs. Baylor Basketball Updated Odds

The Cougars opened as a 15.5-point favorite at home, with an over/under of 145 total points. The line has moved by Monday afternoon to Houston as a 13.5-point favorite, and an over/under of 143.5 or 143.0 total points.

Key Storyline: It’s Now or Never

It’s officially crunch time for Baylor, and that’s putting it lightly. The team isn’t on the bubble yet, but they aren’t far off. Unfortunately, they need to be on the right side of the bubble to get there, but there’s still enough time and opportunity to make it happen. If Scott Drew’s squad wants to make a run, they absolutely need this one. The cards they were dealt weren’t the best, especially considering Houston’s home record under Kelvin Sampson is 51-1. Miracles can happen, and this would absolutely be one.

Match Up to Watch: Baylor Offense vs. Houston Defense

It goes without saying that Houston’s defense is incredible year in and year out. The 2025-26 season is no different, either, as the Cougars lead the Big 12 Conference, surrendering just 62.3 PPG. On the opposite side of the court is Baylor’s offense, which has managed to be above average despite its overall record. The Bears are scoring 82.7 PPG, which checks in at No. 5 in the Big 12.

Prediction: Houston 83, Baylor 78

Look, similarly to the Arizona game, this is going to be close for Baylor. Two legendary head coaches with talented squads should be considered must-see TV, and this is no exception. Still, I trust my eyes, and my eyes have seen Houston dominate teams at home. Baylor will have to play one of their best games of the year to win, and Houston will need the opposite. I don’t think an NCAA Tournament bid is in the cards for Baylor, and this game should put the nail in the coffin.
