Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self issued a heartfelt statement over the weekend following a recent health scare, expressing gratitude to medical staff and optimism about his return.

“I want to thank all of the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” Self said. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and looks forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

Self’s message offers reassurance at a moment of concern. Self’s health scare now marks two in the last calendar year, which have raised serious questions around the program. With summer workouts wrapped and preseason drawing closer, Self made it clear that both he and the roster are ready to turn the page.

The timing of the statement ties neatly into a larger narrative. Kansas enters the 2025–26 season amid Big 12 turbulence, with conference realignment, rising expectations, and veteran players joining a mix of transfers and recruits. Self’s tone set the stage for continuity despite uncertainty.

Looking ahead, all eyes shift to the Jayhawks’ next moves in the preseason and their early-season opener. As long as his health remains stable, fans and players can take comfort knowing the leader is not only back home but re-energized and focused on the grind.
