South Carolina Gamecocks QB LaNorris Sellers can find growth from tough 2025 season

The 2025 season didn’t go the way that South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers was expecting it to go.

Heck, it didn’t go the way anyone in South Carolina was hoping for. Shane Beamer’s team came into 2025 with legitimate hopes to make the College Football Playoff and make some noise.

The Gamecocks finished 4-8.

En route, offensive coordinator Mike Shula was fired midseason, and the Gamecocks lost six of seven to end the campaign.

All the promise Sellers and South Carolina showed in 2024 was seemingly erased, and that made it seem almost inevitable that the 6-foot-3, 240-pound quarterback from Florence, South Carolina, would hit the open market of the transfer portal in search of a fresh start.

Yet, that didn’t happen.

“I believe you’ve got to leave places better than you found them,” Sellers said on Tuesday, via David Hale of ESPN. “That’s what I was always taught. I built relationships here. There was no point in going somewhere else to start over for a year.”

A big part of the relationships at South Carolina includes the coach who believed in him. At one point, in 2024, Beamer called Sellers the best player in the country.

The Gamecocks also retained several of their top players, including EDGE Dylan Stewart and wide receiver Nyck Harbor.

Ultimately, Sellers believes the struggles of the 2025 season can help both him and the Gamecocks become better in 2026 and moving forward.

“That’s just part of the game, having your ups and downs,” Sellers said. “You just gotta learn from it. You make mistakes and hope it makes you better for the future.”
