Michigan guard LJ Cason plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced Monday night in an Instagram post collaboration with On3.
Cason is the first Michigan player to announce he intends to leave the program following Dusty May’s departure to become the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. The Wolverines’ other 13 scholarship players previously announced their intentions to remain at Michigan under new head coach Mike Boynton Jr.
Because of the coaching change, Michigan players were granted a 15-day transfer portal window beginning July 15.
Before suffering a season-ending ACL tear against Illinois in February, Cason was in the midst of a breakout campaign. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 8.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from 3-point range.
Cason underwent surgery following the season and is expected to miss a significant portion of the 2026-27 campaign while recovering.
