Terence Crawford stripped of WBA title one week after Canelo Alvarez victory

On September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, Terence Crawford pulled off a historic victory over Canelo Alvarez. Fast forward just one week later, and he has been stripped of his WBA title.

While many petitioned for it ahead of his most recent win, ‘Bud’ is now widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of his generation. He sits at the top of the sport with fellow undefeated stars Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue as most of the supporters’ choice for best boxer in the world.

But to be in the same ring as Canelo Alvarez and eventually be recognized as one of the greats, Terence Crawford was forced to move up in weight. Despite a commanding performance live on Netflix, he made a revelation about his future in the sport following his win 10 days ago.

Crawford has been the subject of rumors of retirement, though nothing is set in stone. However, one thing that has been confirmed is that the 37-year-old has no plans to move back down in weight.

This decision has cost him his WBA super welterweight champion status.

To capture the WBA super welterweight title before it was ripped out of his grasp, Terence Crawford earned a unanimous decision victory over Israil Madrimov.

As a result of Crawford’s absence, Interim champion Abass Baraou has been promoted to the undisputed champion.

If his time competing against the best in the world has come to an end, the Nebraska native could take the exhibition route.

Terence Crawford admitted that, if the money was right, he could be next in line to face Jake Paul after the controversial influencer’s fight against Gervonta Davis.

Another name linked with Crawford is UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria. The Spaniard has been a revelation in the octagon and is seemingly taking the Conor McGregor path to superstardom in combat sports.
