Now that all of the irons have been tested for 2026, I looked at how individual brands performed. Some are known for being more player-focused or more beginner-focused. I wanted to take a look at things like which led in distance and whether there were any trends, which stood out for accuracy, which had winners and losers, etc.

This year we tested 47 irons across four categories: game-improvement, player’s, player’s distance and super game-improvement, from 19 different brands. Here are the results that stood out to me.

Every buying guide at MyGolfSpy is informed by independent testing and millions of equipment data points, helping golfers separate marketing claims from measurable performance.

No brand swept the categories

If you’re expecting one brand to show up and dominate every bucket, that’s not what happened in 2026. No manufacturer won more than one test. The winners of each category were Titleist, Wilson, Takomo and Tour Edge. I had to break the data down a little further to see who really stood out in 2026.

Which iron brands win on distance, forgiveness and accuracy

Since scores don’t carry over from one category to the next, the fair way to answer this is to look at how each brand’s irons stacked up against the rest of their own category and then average that standing across every category the brand entered. Three brands separate themselves.

Distance: Callaway. Across four models in three categories, Callaway irons were consistently among the longest in whatever bucket they landed in. The Apex Ai 150 led all of player’s for distance. The Quantum Max OS finished second in super game-improvement. Both game-improvement entries, the TI Fusion 250 and the Quantum Max, ranked in the top four of that category for distance.

PING hit the single longest number in two separate categories this year but Callaway was the more complete distance brand, long everywhere it showed up rather than long in isolated spots.

Forgiveness: COBRA. All three COBRA models finished in the top half of their category for forgiveness and the KING MAX led all of super game-improvement outright. That’s a clean, consistent forgiveness story across a brand’s whole lineup rather than one standout model.

Accuracy: Takomo. The Iron 101 MKII was the single most accurate iron in all of game-improvement, the category Takomo went on to win. The rest of the lineup held up, too. Both the player’s distance and player’s entries graded out mid-pack or better for accuracy in their categories.

Distance and forgiveness are still fighting each other

Staying inside individual categories rather than comparing across them, the same pattern shows up more than once this year. The iron chasing distance hardest tends to give up forgiveness to get there. The most forgiving iron in a category tends to leave some distance on the table.

PING is the cleanest example and it happened twice in two separate categories.

The i540 led player’s distance for raw distance but it posted the worst forgiveness score of any iron in that entire category. The G740 led super game improvement for distance but it posted the worst forgiveness score in that category.

The player’s category shows the tradeoff even more clearly. Callaway’s Apex Ai 150 led for distance and gave up real forgiveness to do it. Tour Edge’s Exotics CB, on the other end, led player’s for forgiveness and finished near the bottom for distance.

Srixon’s ZXi7 and Titleist T150 are the player’s irons that didn’t have to choose. They graded well on distance and forgiveness within the category.

Where the marketing was louder than the data

TaylorMade entered only two models this year. The game-improvement entry was mid-pack and the super game-improvement entry, the Qi Max HL, finished dead last in its category. That’s a quieter showing than the brand’s marketing footprint would suggest and worth flagging for anyone assuming shelf presence lines up with test performance.

The bottom line

Nobody swept the golf iron categories in 2026. Wilson’s DYNAPWR Forged was the most complete iron in player’s distance, leading that category on both performance and forgiveness. PING re-confirmed itself as the distance play this year in both player’s distance and super game-improvement at the cost of forgiveness in each. That same distance-for-forgiveness trade showed up across the player’s category more broadly with Srixon’s ZXi7 as the rare iron that avoided picking a side.
