An update is given amid claims on Burnley’s search for a new manager nearly six weeks after Scott Parker’s departure.

Parker’s time at the Clarets came to an end on the 30th of April, a week after the club were relegated from Premier League after single season.

Immediately after the decision was made to part ways, Ben Jacobs reported that former Burnley assistant and Wales boss Craig Bellamy was one name appreciated.

Steven Gerrard was another, and was the current favourite, expressing how keen he is to return to the management and open to a role in the Championship.

Since then, according to Alan Nixon on the 7th of June, Burnley had been working on a shortlist of TEN managerial candidates, with a decision is due by the end of next week.

Steven Gerrard reported still an option, and remained the favourite with BetVictor having him a 2/1, but others are being considered, including some foreign options.

After Nixon’s post on Patreon, Burnley Express’ Matt Scrafton provided the latest on Burnley’s manager search as he understood it.

He said despite Alan Nixon reporting that a final decision is due to be made by the end of this coming week, sources at the club have played that claim down adding that the process is “ongoing”.

Chairman Alan Pace already previously confirming that the club would undergo a “thorough and considered process” in regards to an appointment.

Matt Scrafton added that Cardiff’s Brian Barry Murphy is “well liked” by Burnley, but the Bluebirds aren’t wanting to let go of him.

Wales’ Craig Bellamy was also linked, but since the announcement that he’s staying on for a further two years, he’s dropped away from the betting odds.

Other names mentioned include Robbie Keane, Derby’s John Eustace and an unnamed “Spanish/continental candidate”.

BetVictor have Steven Gerrard at 2/1, Brian Barry Murphy at 4/1, Robbie Keane at 5/1, Ange Postecoglou at 6/1, John Eustace at 8/1 and Ruud van Nistelrooy at 14/1.

Here’s the fan reaction amid an update on Burnley’s search for a new manager nearly six weeks after Scott Parker’s departure…

@BFCHarryy: Tbf to Pace he’s done a fantastic job keeping this quiet not a single journalist has a clue about anything with our new manager!

@1882UTC: Gerrard 10th hopefully 🙏

@MCulshaw84: It’s unlikely I know but I really like the sound of Keane. Celtic probably have us pipped but football is a fickle bitch and surprises happen lol

@Claret606: I’d rather Gerrard as opposed to a foreign gamble personally

@b_c8059865: Anyone but Gerrard. Bring back Dyche!

@logicalclaret: He [Nixon] still thinks ‘Gerrard still has a big chance’ when replying to someone on his Patreon

@craighamer1982: Gerrard will be a good option for us he’ll be able to build a team bring in good players improve his own credentials as a manager like Lampard he’ll have a point to prove and a desire to succeed and the claret family will love him I’m sure of that for me we need a good lead

Rupert Booth: A new chairman and owners would be nice too 😉

Keith Riley: Seems like a professional approach to making a complex decision.

Steven Piessens: If Robbie Keane is on the list he could be brilliant! His average win percentage as manager 66% which doesn’t happen by accident. Plays a high intensity press and direct style of attacking football… non of this possession based nonsense.

Joan Knott: My hope is Pace goes at some point

Kay Barrett: Gerrard apparently only wants his own staff – which means when he goes we’ll have no one to step up as we normally do. Not sure that’s the best option. Although he’d hopefully bring a lot of young players with him.

Stuart Hutchinson: I’m unsure if Alan Pace and Co have any real interest in Burnley any more and a short list of 10 after almost 2 months is comical to say the least, so many fans have lost respect for the ownership over the last season or two, we have become a US branded comedy show with shiny lights and big billboards everywhere and I’m unsure how they can gain trust from the fans if they even want it, I’m also surprised we’re not sharing managers with Espanyol 🫣🫣

Steven Brown: Give Dave Challinor a chance

Oliver Guest: I don’t mind the Gerrard option to be honest

Richard Hemingway: I’m sorry but Robbie Keane shouldn’t be an option.

Nelly Dawson: They really don’t know what they are doing.
