Kris Wigfield comes off Twitter after having his say on Ike Ugbo leaving Sheffield Wednesday and the player’s post on Instagram.

On Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the departure of Ike Ugbo, who has since joined Cypriot top-flight side Apollon Limassol on a season-long loan.

The Owls’ said in a statement: “Ugbo joined the Owls, initially on loan, in January 2024. The move became permanent the following summer.

“The 27-year-old has made 81 appearances for Wednesday across all competitions, scoring nine goals.”

Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, added: “After a difficult period, Iké asked the club to facilitate a fresh start this summer, with the objective getting back to his best for the benefit of himself and the club.

“We have worked collaboratively together throughout the off season to identify the right opportunity and believe we have secured something we are all happy with. We all go into this next chapter with positivity and optimism, and wish Iké well.”

As the announcement came out, Ike took to Instagram, he posted this on his stories…

To which former Sheffield Wednesday administrator Kris Wigfield spoke out, saying – “Getting rid of characters like this from the Club is just as important as any signing. When even in the bleakest of financial circumstances, a high wage earner shows such entitlement for the money they receive and such contempt for the supporters that were literally paying his wages- you have no chance. Good riddance.”

Chris Walker (@C_Wak84) – “Did you try and get him out in January ??”

Kris Wigfield – “We thought we had. Then the destination clubs preferred target unexpectedly became available.”

Ike posted a screenshot of Kris’ tweet, the part which read ‘Getting rid of characters like this from the Club is just as important as any signing.’

Ike said: “I hate having to give this man any attention, but when people choose to speak publicly, I’ll correct the record once. I won’t explain private matters for entertainment. Those who know the truth know my character.

“Some people mistake a position for authority and an opinion for fact.

“One of the first things this man did as admin was try to fine me over rulings which made no sense to me. The way I was questioned about my prescribed medication showed me everything I needed to know. I’m sure there’s plenty of time now to focus on being proud of the boys week in week out.

“That’s the last I’ll speak on the past.”

Kris Wigfield added the morning after – “I’ve got 4.5k followers, nearly all of them fellow Wednesdayites.

“I’ll always give an honest and forthright view, even when it’s controversial (which it often is). But I also prefer a quiet life away from work, and I firmly believe my opinions should never have any chance of influencing the future of SWFC.

“With that in mind, I think this account has served its useful purpose and reached a natural end.

“It’s time for me to do what I enjoy most, quietly supporting Wednesday alongside my friends and family, firmly in the background.

“Thank you to everyone who has followed me and taken the time to read my posts.

Social media users gave their reaction as Kris Wigfield comes off Twitter after having his say on Ike Ugbo leaving Sheffield Wednesday…

neilatkinson490: I don’t what happened at Wednesday two sides to every story sorry it didn’t wotk and hopefully you and your family can have a great time in Cyprus! I don’t think what kicked off tonight was necessary and I don’t think some of the comments on here are either

@DaveLee101: Unprofessional from Ike and from Kris. Counterproductive statements from them both. Helps nowt! Ugbo has two years left on his contract (contrary to what’s said on this thread). No one knows what will happen this/next season. Meaningless conjecture is just disruptive

@timcas23: @kr62209 will go down in history for the key role he played in rescuing @swfc. Ugbo will go down as one of the worst signings in history. Clearly no love lost between all parties. Dig at HP at the end telling. Let’s all move on from this. All parties now in a better place

@joshkswfc: getting messy this now, everyone just needs to forget and move on, don’t want this hanging over us when season is starting next week

@Tom141102: What a mess. Entirely avoidable a week before the season starts.

@dannygeez23: Think everyone needs to forget all the shit and concentrate on the coming season.. I’m personally sick of all the arguments from the last few years. Thats why I’ve not had a season ticket for a few years. Pointless bollocks mate
