Everton join January race to sign Gabriel Sara; Galatasaray want him out

Everton have now reportedly joined the race to sign a midfield star, who could be on the move in the January transfer window.

Everton appeal against “ridiculous” Keane red card

It’s been a strange season for Michael Keane, who is into the final six months of his Everton contract. The defender has unexpectedly stepped up at times, but his red card against Wolverhampton Wanderers acted as a timely reminder about how inconsistent he can be for the Toffees.

As Tolu Arokodare went up for the header, it was the Everton defender who pulled him down by his hair in a ruthless incident which many felt left the referee with little choice but to issue a red card.

David Moyes was not among those people, however. He slammed the decision as “ridiculous” and Everton have now appealed against the sending off.

Speaking to reporters after the game in midweek, Moyes said: “I have been a centre-half and there is no way I am jumping to out-jump a big centre-forward and think: ‘By the way I am going to out-jump him and at the same time I am going to pull his hair.’

“I don’t know anyone on the planet who is good enough to think that way when they are jumping up. I thought it was a ridiculous decision by the referee, but more by VAR. I thought the ridiculous bit came from VAR.”

The Toffees’ luck didn’t improve after Keane’s red card either, with Jack Grealish soon joining his teammate in the dressing room following his own dismissal. Down to nine men, Everton were forced to settle for a point.

It was another night of frustration at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and one which left many questioning whether the Toffees should be looking at the January transfer window.

Everton join race to sign Gabriel Sara

According to reports in Turkey, as relayed by Sport Witness, Everton have joined the race to sign Gabriel Sara from Galatasaray. The midfielder could reportedly lose his place to Manuel Ugarte if Galatasaray complete their move and may well be on the move himself this month as a result.

A place in the Premier League has arguably been a long-time coming. The last time that Sara played in English football was with Norwich City in the Championship, where he thrived. Now, less than two years on and with Champions League experience under his belt, he could finally join the top-flight.

It was during his time at Carrow Road that Sara earned high praise from former Norwich boss David Wagner, who said in 2024: “He works hard. He can easily run between 12 and 13 kilometres and has great vision. He is an outstanding player and a top professional.”

Galatasaray are reportedly willing to evaluate offers worth over €20m (£17m) this month, whilst Sara’s wage demands could be similar to the £58,000-a-week that he’s currently earning in Turkey.
