Fulton Praises Foster — But What Weight Can He Make Now?

Stephen Fulton showed his class today, congratulating O’Shaquie Foster for his victory over him last Saturday night in their battle for the WBC interim lightweight title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs) looked lost inside the ring, stumbling around, missing punches, and totally overmatched against Foster (24-3, 12 KOs). It was supposed to have been a competitive fight, but there was nothing about the fight that resembled an evenly matched bout.

Weight Problem Exposed

Fulton looked fat during the fight, showing a belly him. It’s clear from looking at his appearance that he’d eaten well during camp.

Nearly a Shutout

The scores were 118-110, 119-109, and 117-111. It could have been a lot wider than those scores, because Foster appeared to win 11 of the 12 rounds. The only round that Fulton fought well was the second. Other than that, it was all O’Shaquie.

On social media, 31, Fulton said he would “be back better.” However, fans don’t know what he meant by that. He lacks the power and speed to return to the 135-lb division, and 130 would be all wrong for him as well.

Can Fulton Return to 126?

What’s worrisome is that Fulton couldn’t make the super featherweight limit, coming in two lbs over at 132 lbs. If he can’t make weight for that division, his hopes of returning to the 126-lb division are slim. He still holds the WBC featherweight title, and presumably, he’ll be returning to defend it.

Fulton Shows Class in Defeat

“Congrats to Oshaq, had a great game plan and executed well. As for me, y’all already know I’ll be back and better! I always do,” said Stephen Fulton on X, congratulating O’Shaquie Foster for his victory over him last Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.

Safer Options at Featherweight

If Fulton can somehow find a way to return to 126, he needs to focus on fighting the easy-to-hit, slower guys like Carlos Castro, Nathaniel Collins, and Joet Gonzalez. He’s in his element against those types of fighters.

If you put Fulton in with someone good like Sulaiman Segawa, Mirco Cuello, and Angelo Leo, he’ll likely lose. He should permanently stay away from WBO champion Rafael Espinoza. That would be a disaster for Fulton.
