Alex Karaban‘s slow start to NBA Summer League continued on Tuesday, as the former UConn star struggles to find his shot in Las Vegas.

Karaban scored four points in 24 minutes in the Kings’ 115-83 loss to the Nets. He went 2-for-6 from the field and 0-for-3 from 3-point range. He did grab five rebounds, dish out two assists, and record a block, while also committing two turnovers.

It’s been a rough shooting start for Karaban, who was chosen with the No. 29 overall pick in the draft. The 6-8 forward put up three points on 1-for-3 shooting last time out, and went scoreless on 0-for-6 shooting in his Summer League debut. In three games now, Karaban is averaging 2.3 points in 23.6 minutes per game. He’s shot just 20 percent from the floor and 11 percent from 3-point range.

It’s a very small sample size, but certainly isn’t the start Karaban or the Kings would have envisioned. The team has one more game– against the Celtics on Wednesday, before starting in the Vegas consolation bracket against the Hornets on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Newton rolls in Rockets win

While Karaban has struggled this summer, his former teammate on back-to-back national title teams has been thriving. Tristen Newton scored 17 points in 20 minutes in a 90-64 win over the 76ers on Tuesday. He shot 5 of 11 from the field, and 1-for-3 from 3-point range, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. Newton is averaging 16 points per game this summer, to go along with 4.3 rebounds. He hasn’t shot the ball extremely well–hitting on 36.4 percent of shots and 28.6 from 3, but has shown he can fill it up when given the chance.

Up Next

Three former Huskies could be in action on Wednesday, with Liam McNeeley’s Hornets, Tarris Reed Jr.’s Spurs and Karaban’s Kings all taking the court on Prime Video. Newton could be back in action with the Rockets on Thursday.
