Despite training camps on the horizon, we remain in the thick of the NBA offseason, yet Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is still running up the score. Coming off a genuinely all-time individual season and an NBA championship, the Canadian product drove home his A-list star turn last night with an appearance on the Tonight Show. For our purposes, that appearance came with major news: SGA revealed the next steps in the Converse SHAI 001 journey.
Capping off a rangy conversation touching on his tunnel fashion statements, NBA 2K cover, and custom Chrome Hearts for the SNL alum, of course the conversation had to touch on his Converse signature shoe. After revealing a bit of insight into the design process, Fallon flipped the script by assisting the scoring leader, serving up a tray of three upcoming colorways all set to drop on October 2nd: the Hail Clay, Masi Blue, and Charm Black. Each capitalizing on a monochromatic theme, they’re further united by familial ties, inspired by Mrs. Gilegous-Alexander’s eye color, brother Thomasi’s favorite hue, and mother Charmaine’s tendency to dress in all-black.
This three-headed reveal comes following an across-the-board instant sell-out performance for the SHAI 001 “Butter,” in which secondary market prices have creeped up towards double MSRP. For those following this shoe’s plotline throughout the year, it’s no shock given the high anticipation for the silhouette, but bodes well for the performance of these three new looks (or ominously if you’re hoping for an easy cop.)
