Hitter of the Day
Wehiwa Aloy, SS/3B, Baltimore Orioles (Double-A Chesapeake): 2-3, 2 HR, BB, 3 R, 4 RBI.Aloy’s always been a power threat with monster athleticism, and he produced big-time for the Arkansas Razorbacks. That’s why he was a (relatively) high pick at the back of the first round. The K-rate (his primary area of risk) still runs a bit high, but he probably managed to allay some of the hit concerns by batting .300 on the dot across four months at High-A and .381 for the month of July. He’s off to a solid start over his first week-plus in PG County.
Pitcher of the Day
Jamie Arnold, LHP, Sacramento Athletics (Double-A Midland): 5 ⅔ IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 9 K, 2 BB.Arnold just (or perhaps somewhat more than just) missed taking a spot on the Midseason 50, due mostly to underwhelming stuff that has led to underwhelming performance over the balance of the season. He’s been generally effective outside of a rough May, but prior to Wednesday night had notched only one outing with eight or more strikeouts (and prior to that July evening he hadn’t had one with seven since April). The FSU man opened August strong, though.
