What about a Jimmy Snuggerud extension?

Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: (mailbag) St. Louis Blues forward Jimmy Snuggerud is entering the final year of his entry-level deal. If the sides want to get an extension in place before the start of the season, which seems unlikely at this point, it would likely be bridge deal at a reasonable cap hit. Once the season starts, and he if gets off to a good start, it may take a seven-year deal at $10 million-plus.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have three RFAs they still need to take care of

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: The Columbus Blue Jackets still need to re-sign RFA forwards Adam Fantilli and Cole Sillinger and goaltender Jet Greaves. (Arbitration filings for Thursday’s hearing – Blue Jackets $2.8 million and Greaves $7.5 million – Elliotte Friedman).

Aaron Portzline: “Each side leans toward an extreme version of what they believe is appropriate, as a way to draw the arbitrator’s “mid-range” finding either lower (club) or higher (player). If #CBJ Jet Greaves reaches arbitration, look for a finding between $4.5M and $5.5M on a 1-year deal.”

Where could Patrick Kane, Vladimir Tarasenko, and John Klingberg end up?

The Blue Jackets will request a one-year deal for arbitration, as two years would walk Greaves to free agency. GM Don Waddell said they’d like to sign Greaves to a long-term deal.

“Our whole goal is trying to get an extension, a multiyear extension. If not, we’ll get to arbitration and get a deal, and nobody gets mad because somebody else makes the decision for you.”

Waddell continues to talk with Fantilli’s agent, Pat Brisson. A source said an eight-year deal is unlikely, and they could be looking at five to seven years. Five years would buy one year of UFA status, which is what both Leo Carlsson and Connor Bedard did, and the most likely outcome.

Sillinger’s arbitration hearing is scheduled for Monday. Term has been the biggest issue in these talks, according to a source.
