Daily Faceoff: Jason Gregor and Jeff Marek talk about Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly and if he’ll be with the Leafs to start the season. If he starts the season with the Leafs, will he finish the season there?

Gregor: “I look at Toronto, and I still feel like their blue line wasn’t good enough. If you’re going to get rid of Morgan Rielly, who you replace them with at this stage, that’s going to be better? So I’m going to buy that he starts with Toronto.
Marek: “I think he starts. I just don’t think that he, I just don’t think that he finishes. I think that it’s always best if you can solve your problems internally. And although it may seem as if Morgan Rielly has kind of run his course in Toronto, it’s a new team, new faces, and most importantly for Morgan Rielly, it’s a new coach. And it’s a coach that knows him from his go-around before with Mike Babcock.

And Hiller is like one of those guys that always got along great with the young kids there. Great relationship with Matthews. Good relationship with Morgan Rielly. If you can get Morgan Rielly back to that skating defenseman that he was previously, and let’s not forget too, Craig Berube loves his defenseman around the net, right? And that ain’t Morgan Rielly’s game. Morgan Rielly’s game is gallop, gallop, gallop.
So if you can get that guy back, then, you know, to Jason’s point, like why would you look at moving him? Give him the look early in the season, see if there’s something, see if there’s something there, and then maybe you re-evaluate.
Having said all of that, I don’t know that he finishes the season with Toronto. But I’m with Jason, I think, I think that he, I think that he starts the season with the Maple Leafs.
