Gonzaga lands Florida State transfer forward Chauncey Wiggins

Florida State transfer forward Chauncey Wiggins has committed to Gonzaga.

Wiggins entered the transfer portal in April after one season with the Seminoles. He started 30 of 32 games during the 2025-26 campaign and averaged career highs of 13.3 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 47.9% from the field and 38.7% from 3-point range.

Before joining Florida State, the 6-foot-10 forward spent three seasons with the Clemson Tigers. Wiggins averaged 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds as a junior in 2024-25, starting 26 games for the Tigers.

On3’s Transfer Portal account announced Wiggins’ commitment Thursday night on X, formerly Twitter, citing Joe Tipton. The move gives Gonzaga an experienced frontcourt scorer and one of last season’s more prolific long-range threats among taller players.

Chauncey Wiggins receives fifth year of eligibility

On3’s Nick Schultz reported that Wiggins was among several named plaintiffs granted a fifth year of eligibility through a Georgia state-court injunction issued Wednesday. Separately, U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney’s class-wide preliminary injunction in Colorado on July 31 opened another path for Class of 2022 athletes who had completed four seasons of eligibility by the end of 2025-26.

Sweeney later clarified the scope of her decision. The injunction addresses fifth-year eligibility but does not suspend NCAA transfer rules, roster limits or other regulations governing participation:

“The Court’s order does not enjoin the operation of transfer rules,” Sweeney wrote in the order, issued August 2nd. “As the plain language of the preliminary injunction order and this order make clear, the Court’s injunction concerns only the implementation of the Rule (as defined in the preliminary injunction order) and any Bylaw that prohibits Plaintiffs and Class Members from competing in a fifth season of collegiate athletics.”

That distinction matters less for Wiggins. He entered the portal in April, well before either ruling, and the Georgia injunction specifically protects the named plaintiffs. His commitment to Gonzaga does not independently guarantee his eligibility, but neither the transfer rules cited in Sweeney’s clarification nor current information indicates the move is invalid.

The NCAA has appealed the Colorado injunction and intends to seek a stay of the order. Unless the rulings change or another eligibility issue emerges, Wiggins is positioned to use his potential fifth season with the Bulldogs during the 2026-27 campaign.
