Are the Marchenko trade rumors being blown out of proportion?
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff joined TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked why there was so much trade speculation surrounding Kirill Marchenko and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

As the Kirill Marchenko rumors turn
Host: “It’s weird because we know around free agency, the trade, and this. It just this weekend, I’m like, why is my social media feed just getting swirled by these (Kirill) Marchenko rumors again?
Anthony Di Marco: “This summer feels a little different in the sense, and listen, like we’re in the dog days of summer 1,000%. But it feels a little bit different in the way of, like, hmmm, like the antenna keeps popping up here and there, and look, it’s the Columbus Blue Jackets. Every half-decent player seems to want out of Columbus at some point or another.
Marchenko, I believe, has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens in the past. Obviously, him playing on the second line alongside his countryman Ivan Demidov will make a ton of sense. But I mean, I do think sometimes this time of year things get blown a little out of proportion just because us hockey nuts are starved for hockey content in any which way possible.”
Nothing imminent on the Marchenko front
Aaron Portzline of The Athletic joined Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Power Play on Monday afternoon and was asked about the Kirill Marchenko trade rumours and if there was anything close.

A Kirill Marchenko trade could happen soon
Host: “One name, though, that’s not really calming down yet, Aaron, is Kirill Marchenko. He’s got the final year left on his contract. He’s an RFA, actually, the year after that, as it currently stands right now. And rumors are flying all over the place. You’ve got your finger on the pulse. What’s going on here?”
Aaron Portzline: “Well, yeah, I was told and reported via that awful app called Twitter or X, whatever it is. Anyway, that these current rumors of this trade being imminent are not factual. So now things can change. It’s a long summer still to go. The right phone call could be placed, and things will change.
But my understanding is that the Blue Jackets have not had trade discussions involving Kirill Marchenko since that initial flurry right at the draft where his name surfaced originally. I have been told not to put any merit on the trade rumours out there right now. But again, like with (Zach) Werenski, this is going to be a situation worth watching.
NHLRumors.com Note: There are a lot of reports out there about Kirill Marchenko since the 2026 NHL Draft. GM Don Waddell mentioned after his free agency press conference that Marchenko would be a part of the Blue Jackets next season. Again, you never want to dispute others’ reporting, but it seems there are conflicting reports about whether a trade involving the Blue Jackets forward is close. It will be interesting to see where things go moving forward.
