The 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix had a weekend attendance of 310,000, equalling the record figure from the Hungaroring’s 40 years on the F1 calendar.
310,000 fans attended the Hungaroring across the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix according to Formula 1. The figure equals the Hungaroring’s record attendance number, with 310,000 attendees last being reported over the 2024 race weekend. This is the fourth year in a row that attendance at the Hungarian Grand Prix has reached or exceeded 300,000.
The figure is up by 10,000 compared to last year’s number, where attendance declined despite major upgrades to the main grandstand on the Hungaroring’s start/finish straight. Race organisers at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix reported that race day at the Hungaroring was sold out for the fifth year in a row.
Lando Norris claimed victory in the race, securing his first win as the reigning Formula 1 World Champion. He was joined on the podium by Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli. Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup were also in action over the race weekend, giving fans in the grandstands plenty to keep an eye on as the weekend progressed.
In other news, the Hungaroring announced new corner names for its circuit on the 40th anniversary of it hosting the Hungarian Grand Prix for the first time. Corner names include nods to World Champions – including Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton – who have previously won multiple times at the venue.
2026 F1 Attendance Grows to 3.8 Million
We estimate that total F1 weekend attendance in 2026 now sits at close to four million. That figure is based on official figures reported by Formula 1, race promoters and local media, plus estimates based on previous year’s figures for unconfirmed attendances in Miami and Monaco.
The 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix is the eighth race of the season to have had a confirmed weekend attendance upward of 300,000. The British Grand Prix remains the best-attended race of the year, with a four-day crowd totalling 564,000 – a record for a Formula 1 event.
Malaysia Added to 2026 F1 Calendar
Over the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, it was announced that Sepang International Circuit will return to the Formula 1 calendar later this year to host the previously called-off Bahrain Grand Prix. The event is taking place following an agreement between Formula 1, the FIA and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia.
The addition of Kuala Lumpur to the calendar takes the total number of rounds in 2026 back up to 23, following the postponement of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix earlier this year. Due to the ongoing US-Iran war, doubts still remain over the viability of hosting the final two rounds of the year in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Imola, in Italy, is understood to be the frontrunner to host the season finale should the races in the Middle East be cancelled.
