Jose Trevino had a big game as he homered twice and had three hits, but that was the lone bright spot for the Reds. Cincinnati only got 2.1 innings from Rhett Lowder in a disastrous start as the Colorado Rockies crushed the visiting team on Saturday afternoon to pick up their 40th win of the year.
The Reds went down in order in the top of the 1st inning. Colorado began their half of the 1st inning with a double and after just four batters it was a sign of how the day was going to go. The Rockies would score twice in the 1st inning. Rhett Lowder then gave up four runs in the 2nd. Jose Trevino would homer in the top of the 3rd to get Cincinnati on the board and cut the lead to 6-1.
Colorado would tack on two more runs in the 3rd after Lowder gave up a double and a single before being replaced with one out in the inning by Julian Garcia. He allowed a run to score on a groundout and then another one on a single as the lead ballooned to 8-1.
In the top of the 5th inning Jose Trevino came up with two outs and hit his second home run of the game – a 424-foot blast into left-center. An inning later the Rockies got that run back and then some after a walk was followed up by a 2-run home run by TJ Rumfield to make it 10-2.
Cincinnati would get a run in the 7th inning after Noelvi Marte doubled and then came around to score on a single by pinch-hitter Nathaniel Lowe. That would cut the lead to seven runs. It was as close as the game got as both teams failed to score the rest of the way as the Rockies held on for a blowout win to even up the series at one win for each squad.

Notes Worth Noting
Jose Trevino had one home run this season entering the day. He had only played in 25 games but that had resulted in just one ball going over the fence. He tripled his season total with his 2-homer day in Colorado. This was his first multi-homer game since May 12th of 2024 when he was with the Yankees. It was his third multi-homer game in his career.
In Rhett Lowder’s last two starts he’s given up 14 runs on 22 hits while throwing 7.1 innings. In between there he allowed one run in 7.0 innings out of the bullpen.
