Gervonta Davis Says Devin Haney Wants a 165-Pound Edge: ‘Do as I Say’

Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney may finally be edging closer to a fight, but Tank is already making one thing clear: he questions the size advantage Haney may carry into any future meeting.

The latest exchange began when Haney suggested Davis’ team had reached out regarding a potential bout.

“I think Gervonta grew some balls.. his team reached out! We might just end up fighting!” Haney posted.

A fan then warned Haney not to accept any rehydration clause, prompting a swift response from Davis.

“He wants to come in 165… you’re not in the driver’s seat. It’s your dad you’re talking about. If you want the biggest purse of your career, you do as I say.”

Gervonta Davis vs Devin Haney

The comments immediately reignited one of boxing’s longest-running rivalries.

For years, the Haney camp has pushed for a fight with Davis. Back in 2023, Bill Haney publicly attempted to make the contest and repeatedly accused Davis of looking elsewhere despite growing demand from fans.

At the time, Leonard Ellerbe responded that nobody dictates terms to Gervonta Davis.

“You can’t dictate terms to the guy who’s bringing the business,” Ellerbe said.

More than two years later, Davis appears to share the same view.

Whether the 165-pound figure is accurate or part of the ongoing social media warfare, Tank’s message was unmistakable. If a fight happens, he believes he remains the A-side and that any deal will be made on his terms.

Who’s Calling the Shots?

The timing is also interesting.

Davis was ordered to defend his WBA lightweight title against Floyd Schofield, with the deadline for negotiations expiring on Monday. Yet his latest comments suggest he may already be looking beyond the 135-pound division.

A move to 140 pounds would place Davis alongside names such as Shakur Stevenson and Vasiliy Lomachenko, while a jump to welterweight would open the door to both Haney and a lucrative rematch with Ryan Garcia.

Whether any of those fights happen remains to be seen.

What isn’t in doubt is that Davis is openly discussing Haney as a future opponent while continuing to insist that any deal will happen on his terms.

Despite the legal issues hanging over him, Davis is already talking about future fights.

If negotiations are genuinely underway, Davis has already made his position clear. The fight may be huge, but he won’t surrender control of the terms.
