Joe Rogan calls for Jake Paul's retirement from boxing

Even without winning his most recent fight, Jake Paul has made enough money to last him several lifetimes. Despite his relatively short time in the sport, the 28-year-old has managed to keep his name in the headlines, making himself one of the most prominent names among active boxers.

Last time out, Jake Paul suffered a sixth-round knockout loss at the hands of Anthony Joshua. As expected, the damage Paul suffered against Joshua was likely more than he has suffered in all of his other professional outings combined.

According to Netflix, over 33 million people tuned in to watch the Paul vs. Joshua card. One of those spectators was Joe Rogan, who weighed in on the fight.

“That guy did great for someone who’s been boxing for less than a decade,” Rogan said regarding Paul’s career. “He has had no real professional opponents, other than Tommy Fury, that were legitimate world-class boxers…”

“He’s a good boxer. If he wasn’t a YouTuber, people would be way more impressed with him.”

While YouTubers and social media stars have done a great job in extending boxing to a wide new audience, a stigma surrounds those boxers coming from that world.

Most professional boxers tend to look down on content creators testing their mettle in the ring. While the majority of them are in it for a quick payday, Jake Paul has shown what it looks like when a YouTube star dedicates himself to the craft.

“Just the fact that he’s willing to fight the two-time heavyweight champion,” Rogan continued. “A former Olympic gold medalist, a guy who’s gigantic, in his prime, built like a Greek god.”

“He’s a one-punch killer, and you’re going to stand in front of that guy? And he avoided shots until the sixth round. He just started getting tired…”

“He clocked Anthony Joshua. He did hit him with a big right hand… Anthony Joshua’s gigantic. He’s so big. He’s so much bigger. So, of course, like his punch that he knocks Tyron Woodley out cold with, Joshua just eats it. Because he’s a giant.”

Many were impressed with Jake Paul’s ability to avoid taking too much damage in the fight until fatigue got the better of him.

As Paul rightfully stated, he did a much better job against Anthony Joshua than Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion, did.

A loss may now sit on ‘The Problem Child’s record forever, but he can take countless positives from the fight. Though his showing wasn’t one to be ashamed of, Joe Rogan believes it’s time for the influencer to hang up the gloves.

“He’s probably made 300 million plus in his boxing career… He’s 28 years old, 29 next month. Don’t do this very long, because there’s a price that you pay that is not worth it. It’s not worth it.”

“That price is depression. A deep depression. A severe brain imbalance that’s going to lead you to addiction. It leads so many people to impulsive behavior.”

“So many people become gambling addicts, drug addicts, [and] alcoholics after their fighting career.”

“You can only take so much, and at a certain, like that one that he got from Joshua. Say if you have a punch card, you have, like, so many punches that you can get in your life, which I believe you do. I believe there’s a certain number. That one was like 10 punches. There were a lot of concussions in that one punch.”

“That was real damage. Like, if someone’s breaking your jaw in two places, the inside of your f***ing head is, there’s a lot of damage going on in there, too.”
