Coach Hints At Issues In Keyshawn Davis-BoMac Split

Bernie’s comment about reading “between the lines” suggests issues that led to Keyshawn leaving McIntyre. Tim Bradley suggested on his channel that Keyshawn felt ‘BoMac’ and the team “weren’t there for him” when he failed to make weight for the De Los Santos fight, which led to the fight being canceled and him losing his WBO 135-lb title.

Keyshawn had been with ‘BoMac’ for 10 fights since teaming up with him in April 2022. The biggest win during those years was his victory over WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk last February. Fans criticized Keyshawn for turning down a fight against his former four-time conqueror, Andy Cruz, who defeated him in the 2020 Olympics. The Cuban Cruz had a 4-0 record against Keyshawn in the amateurs.

“It’s business. I think he’s a superstar. I don’t have to say much. The kid said it all. If you can read between the lines, you can understand what’s going on,” said coach Bernie ‘Tha Boxer’ Davis to MillCity Boxing, discussing Keyshawn Davis’ decision to part ways with trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre.

If Keyshawn expected to given a lot of attention from ‘BoMac’, and it wasn’t there, that would be a good reason for him to go in another direction toward a different coach. It’s unclear how much time ‘BoMac’ was spending training his other fighters, like Terence ‘Crawford. Having him as one of his fighters would be a time drain.

“I don’t know why the kid [Davis] decided to go another route, because I know Bo didn’t quit on him,” said Bernie.

Keyshawn says he’s got a whole different team working with him. He doesn’t say who they are, but he appears happy for now. He’s with his friend or ‘Brother’ Shakur Stevenson.

“We are responsible for what we do. If you look at the team’s actions and the other’s actions, you can go from there. I’m still a fan of Keyshawn. I think he’s a superstar. I wish him nothing but the best. Bo is a diplomat,” said Bernie about ‘BoMac’ choosing not to speak on the circumstances that led to Keyshawn leaving his camp.

Keyshawn is now fighting at 140, but still doesn’t fight scheduled despite 10 months of inactivity. He was briefly in negotiations for a fight against IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins for the January 31st Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson card at Madison Square Garden in New York. However, Keyshawn and Hitchins failed to make a deal.
