How Le’Veon Moss’ injury update impacts Texas A&M’s season

The No. 19 Texas A&M Aggies came out of fall camp a bit banged up.

Senior right tackle Reuben Fatheree is expected to miss a few games with a leg injury. Redshirt freshman Isendre “Papa” Ahfua and true freshman five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles have both been lost for the season with leg injuries of their own.

That’s the bad news. The good news, according to head coach Mike Elko, is that All-SEC Second Team senior running back Le’Veon Moss is healthy and ready to roll heading into Week 1.

“Yeah, Le’Veon’s good to go,” Elko said on Tuesday, according to Alex Byington of On3 “He’s had a really, really strong two weeks and we’re excited to get him back out there and see him perform.”

This is big news for Texas A&M, because Moss projects to be a huge part of what the Aggies want to do offensively this season. The senior from Walker, Louisiana, suffered a season-ending knee injury in November of last season that ended what was shaping up to be an elite campaign.

Before getting injured, Moss had rushed 121 times for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was hurt in the game against South Carolina last season, which Texas A&M lost, 44-20.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the Aggies went 1-4 without Moss on the field.

Getting him back and healthy is huge for Texas A&M as it enters this important second season in the Mike Elko era. He very well could end up being one of the top running backs in the nation if he remains healthy.

He’s the type of player who can help the Aggies win double-digit games.

Expect the Aggies to look to break him back in against UTSA in Week 1. Getting his legs back under him and allowing him to get comfortable with the flow of the game will be vital, especially with a game at No. 6 Notre Dame looming in Week 3.
